Leave Adelaide travelling on the Dukes Highway
through Tailem Bend, Bordertown & at Nhill turn off to Little
Desert National Park. Good camping can be had here in several
locations. The park extends from the South Australian Border right
through to Dimboola and has many interesting sandy tracks.
From Dimboola travel to Horsham and approx 20 kms
towards Stawell take right turn to Roses Gap. From here go to Halls
Gap which is the Hub of the Grampians. Make the caravan park your
base, it is easy to spend several days exploring the Grampians with
a visit to McKenzie Falls a must. For anyone looking for a
restaurant meal we can recommend the Kookaburra opposite the caravan
park.
Travel south out of the Grampians to Hamilton
& on the Henty Highway to Heywood & Portland. The lower
Glenelg National Park is accessed from Nelson about 1 hours drive
from Portland. This park has an abundance of campsites and is great
for canoeing (canoe hire available at Nelson).
Mount Gambier is the next regional centre with
much to offer, including an excellent caravan park near the Blue
Lake. Visit the various sink holes around the town and the Lady
Nelson Tourist Centre.
The return to Adelaide is via the coast going
through towns like Millicent, Robe, Kingston, Meningie & Tailem
Bend.
If you have time for one final camp before Adelaide, the Little Dip
Conservation Park south of Robe, Long Gully Camp is recommended.
